Creativity

Helichrysum heals physical and emotional wounds: it helps heal trauma.

Accompanying visualization, it releases creativity.

Healing, anti-coagulant, antispasmodic.

Words by Anny Schneider

Its scent is generally soothing on an emotional level, and Immortelle, as its name suggests, overcomes many ailments, both physical and psychological.

Helichrysum relieves both hematomas and emotional bruises, particularly wounds and trauma experienced in early childhood.

This pretty little yellow flower from the arid scrubland, very soft to the touch and with a subtle aroma, well deserves its popular name of everlasting!

Lydia Bosson, in Energetic Aromatherapy, recommends applying a drop to the soles of the feet, a drop to the solar plexus and a drop to the third eye before going to sleep.

Helichrysum essential oil helps ground you and calms raw nerves.

It helps you get out of difficult situations and take new steps.

Origin of this essential oil

This essential oil comes from the distillation of the flowering tops of Italian Helichrysum harvested in Italy.

Properties

  • Antiseptic,
  • healing,
  • hemostatic,
  • moisturizing.

Suggestions for use

Used diluted at 5% in vegetable oil (hemp, St. John's wort, castor) against joint and muscle pain.

More information

The Italian helichrysum, also called immortelle because its flowers never seem to die, is a small plant from the shores of the Mediterranean.

It does not exceed 50 cm in height.

It grows in dense clumps, the leaves are fine, grayish, soft and topped with yellow flower heads in June-July.

Helichrysum likes well-draining and siliceous soils.

To make the precious essential oil, we use the flowers and upper branches.

Essential oil should be part of all backpacks for hikers and athletes in general; it is known to quickly relieve the risk of hematomas (bruises) after an impact or a fall.

It helps in cases of phlebitis and paraphlebitis as well as edema, varicosities, rosacea.

But also, it relieves bronchitis and nasopharyngitis.

It would also be effective in reducing ringing in the ears.

If there is one oil to have with you when you go hiking, it's this one.

Main components of essential oil

  • Terpene esters:
    • Origin Corsica (France): neryl acetate 35-75% (most abundant component), ketones and β-diketones
    • Origin Greece: neryl acetate 7% with additional geranyl acetate 15% and geraniol)
  • Ketones (15 to 20%): diones or betadiones or β-diketones = italidiones: italidione I, II, III (4,6,9-trimethyl-8-decene-3,5-dione = italidione I and 2,4, 6,9-tetramethyl-8-decene-3,5 dione = italidione II)
    • In Corsican origin (France), presence of higher quantities of ketones and β-diketones in young shoots, and of neryl acetate in full flowering
  • Neryl acetate is the majority component of Corsican EO, with neryl propionate, nerol, ketones and β‐diketones [3], eudesm‐5‐en‐11‐ol
  • Distillation processes are likely to modify the chemical composition of the EO [5], as does the geographical origin
  • Sesquiterpenes: beta-caryophyllene, alpha-cedrene, gamma-curcumene, alpha-curcumene
  • Monoterpenols: nerol
  • Limonene, 1,8-cineole (Corsican origin (France)), alpha-pinene, alpha-selinene and beta-selinene
  • Great variability of the essential oil depending on the origin :
    • Corsica (France): contain mainly oxygenated derivatives: neryl acetate, neryl propionate, aliphatic ketones and beta-diketones, few hydrocarbons (limonene, gamma-curcumene, alpha-curcumene)
    • Former Yugoslavia: alpha-pinene (22%), gamma-curcumene (10%), beta-selinene (6%), neryl acetate (6%), beta-caryophyllene (5%), while alpha-curcumene ( 15-29%), gamma-curcumene, and alpha-pinene (25-30%) are more abundant in EOs from the Adriatic coast
    • Greece: geraniol (36%), geranyl acetate (15%), nerolidol (12%)
    • Tuscany: alpha-pinene (33–53%), neryl acetate (10–22%), and sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (23–39%): beta-selinene, beta-caryophyllene, alpha-selinene
