Do not use pure essential oils. Essential oils are diluted in a vegetable oil when applied to the skin. Carry out a skin tolerance test in the crook of your elbow and wait 48 hours before using the oil on the skin. Do not use the essential oil if you notice a reaction such as redness, itching or stinging.

Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Essential oils should not be applied to the eyes, the eye contour area, neither into the ears. In case of contact, apply a plenty of vegetable oil and take promptly medical advice.

Palmarosa is a perennial grass is native to south-east Asia, especially India and Pakistan and it is cultivated for its oil.
It is an exotic variety to Nepal and found distributed within the altitude of 300 m to 1500 m.
This plant has been widely cultivated its aromatic value.
The plant reaches up to 2 m in height.
Leaves are linearlanceolate and finely caudate.
Leaves arise mostly from the base of the stem and are highly fragrant.
Flowers appear in panicles and turns to reddish brown when mature.
Propagation is often carried out by root cuttings and slips.

- Monoterpene alcohols: geraniol 80 to 85%, linalool 2 to 3%, farnesol, nerol
- Esters: geranyl acetate 7 to 9%, geranyl formate
- Monoterpenes: (E) -beta-ocimene 1 to 2%, (Z) -beta-ocimene, myrcene, limonene
- Sesquiterpenes: beta-caryophyllene, alpha-humulene
- Aldehydes: geranial
