External usage
The Virginia witch hazel or witch hazel, is native to the eastern part of North America (from Quebec to Virginia).
In its region of origin it can easily reach 7 m in height.
It looks a bit like a hazel tree from a distance, but when it flowers (in autumn or winter) it is impossible to confuse them.
Its flowers are unusual, they look like a small tuft of colored ribbons, these are the petals.
They give off a pleasant, sweet fragrance that smells of winter when you pass by a stalk of witch hazel in bloom.
Native peoples used witch hazel for its medicinal properties.
Modern occidental medicine attributes anti-inflammatory, haemostatic virtues to it and especially virtues for the treatment of hemorrhoids and venous insufficiency in herbal medicine.
