Himalayan salt, also called rock salt, is extracted by hand from ancient salt beds deep in the Himalayan mountains.
It is renowned for its purity, rich in more than 80 minerals and trace elements, including calcium, magnesium, potassium, copper and iron.
Its pink color comes from its mineral composition, becoming more intense as mineral density increases.
This salt is used in baths to promote relaxation and has refreshing and energizing effects.
Himalayan pink salt, extracted from saline rocks near the Himalayan range, is raw, unrefined, rich in trace elements, and non-iodized.
It is used in cooking, cosmetics, crafts and industrial applications.
The Khewra Salt Mine in Pakistan is the main source of this salt, dating back 800 million years.
The mine, the second largest in the world, is located at an altitude of 288 m, with a capacity of 600 million tonnes of salt.
It is operated on a significant scale, producing more than 350,000 tonnes per year.
The salt is extracted at depths of up to 400 and 600 meters, then crushed, bagged, and marketed throughout the world without undergoing additional processing.
It is praised for its aesthetics, its natural crunch, and its gourmet use.
The Khewra mine was discovered in the 4th century BC. BC by the troops of Alexander the Great, but its commercial exploitation began much later, notably under the Mughal Empire.
The mine returned to the Pakistani government after the partition of India in 1947.
