The tree is native to the Indomalayan kingdom, which is made up of South Asia, Southeast Asia-Indochina, and southern China.
It is found in tropical and subtropical humid deciduous forest ecoregions, at elevations of 200 to 1,600 meters (660 to 5,250 feet).
It is also found in the Maldives, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand and Vietnam.
In China, it is possible to find it south of Xizang and in the southern and southwestern provinces of Yunnan.
It is a tree that can reach 50 m (160 ") high and blooms from June to September.
